V485 Centauri: the Shortest Period SU UMa Star ∗

چکیده
We report CCD observations of the dwarf nova V485 Cen during its 1997 su-peroutburst. The long lasting outburst with characteristic slope, brightness dip and presence of clear superhumps give evidence that V485 Cen belongs to the group of SU UMa-type variables. The superhump period is equal to 0. d 042156 ± 0. d 000004 (60. m 7). Thus, V485 Cen has the shortest known period among SU UMa-type stars, with a period as much as 25% shorter than previously known objects. The analysis of times of superhump maxima gives clear evidence for the increase of superhump period with ˙ P sh = 28.3 × 10 −5. This fact confirms the hypothesis that the shortest periods SU UMa variables contrary to other stars of this type have positive values of ˙ P sh .

1RXS J232953.9+062814: a New SU UMa Dwarf Nova below the Period Minimum
1RXS J232953.9+062814 was identified as a cataclysmic variable by Wei et al. (1999). Four low-resolution spectra of 1RXS J232953.9+062814 were obtained by using the 2.16-m telescope of the National Astronomical Observatories, in which two of them were at outburst, and the other two were at quiescence. The system is about 16.8B and 16.5 V at quiescence, and 12.6B and 12.6 V at outburst. The quie...
متن کاملNewly arising problems in the research of SU UMa-type dwarf novae from VSNET collaborations
Our research on variable objects based on the VSNET collaborations has achieved much progress in understanding the nature of many kinds of phenomena. Many problems have appeared, instead. Among them, we here review three newly arising problems in the research of SU UMa-type dwarf novae: 1) how do EI Psc and V485 Cen evolve as a cataclysmic variable?, 2) is the early superhump a particular pheno...
متن کاملDiscovery of a new dwarf nova , TSS J 022216 . 4 + 412259 . 9 : WZ Sge - type dwarf novae breaking the shortest superhump period record
We report on the time-resolved CCD photometry of a newly discovered variable star, TSS J022216.4+412259.9 during the outburst in 2005 November-December brightening. The obtained light curves unambiguously showed 0.2-0.3 mag modulations, which we confirmed to be the superhump observed among SU UMa-type dwarf novae. We also performed a period search for the data obtained during the outburst plate...
متن کاملc ○ 2008. Astronomical Society of Japan. The 2003/2004 Superoutburst of SDSS J013701.06-091234.9
We report on time-resolved photometry of the superoutburst of an SU UMa-type dwarf nova, SDSS J013701.06-091234.9 in 2003 December-2004 January. The obtained light curves definitely show superhumps with a period of 0.056686 (12) d, which is one of the shortest superhump periods among those of SU UMa-type dwarf novae ever observed. Considering quiescent photometric studies, we estimated the frac...
متن کاملPhotometric study of new southern SU UMa-type dwarf novae – II: Authentication of BF Ara as a Normal SU UMa-type Dwarf Nova with the Shortest Supercycle
We photometrically observed the 2002 August long outburst of BF Ara. The observation for the first time unambiguously detected superhumps (average period 0.08797(1) d), qualifying BF Ara as a genuine SU UMa-type dwarf nova. An analysis of the longterm visual light curve yielded a mean supercycle length of 84.3(3) d. The characteristics of outbursts and superhumps more resemble those of usual SU...
